Aso Savings and Loans Puts Value of Mortgage at N32 billion

Aso Savings and Loans plc has up to 40,000 mortgages worth about N32 billion in its books, which according to the company probably accounts for about 60 to  70 percent of  the country’s total mortgage, Mohammed Shehu, executive director, Operations and Technology of the company has said.

Shehu stated this during a chat with Business Day at the final draws of the 2011 Edition of the Company’s Annual ‘My House Account National Promotion held in Abuja.
 

“In terms of offering, I think we have tried as much as possible to create diversity, to cater for the whole spectrum from the micro level, at the social housing level, mass housing level, and medium income level to the high income level”.
 

According to him, the company has tried as much as possible to create products that will cater for these spectra of people, including my house account to show an attestation of its kind of offering diversity.
 

“We have probably about 40,000 mortgages worth about N32 billion, and I think that is a huge figure, considering the fact that in Nigeria, the 40,000 accounts for more than 60 to 70 percent of the total mortgages,” he said.
 

At the promotion event, Hassan Musa Usman, Aso Savings & Loans’ managing director, stated that the 2011 edition of the ASO Save & Grow My Account promo has created a vista of opportunities for both new and existing customers of the bank.
 

“It is a mechanism to empower customers, build equity for the My House Account brand and to attract new customers and it is also a property acquisition platform for all our prospective, new and old customers”, he said.
 

“Beyond all that, the Save & Grow Promo is a financial empowerment medium, through which a customer can cultivate good savings habit that will open up their opportunities” The Save & Win promo was a six month customers acquisition and account growing marketing campaign that promised to reward lucky winners with fabulous prizes that include: 20 Flat Screen Television Sets, 30 Refrigerators, 40 Deep Fryers and 50 Microwave Ovens, while a star prize winner will get a three bedroom bungalow in a choice part of Abuja; Nigeria’s federal capital territory.
 

The promo was launched across all the branch network of the mortgage finance bank in the four geo-political zones of the country on June 15, 2011 and was officially rounded off on December 15, 2011.
