FMDQ, NASD, and NSE Lead Conference on SME Financing via the Capital Markets

LeadingGlobal and Nigerian Firms will hold a webinar conference that would guideNigerian Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) on how to use the capital marketto attract domestic capital for growth and sustainability.

 

Theconference, sponsored by the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE); CardinalStone;Fidelity Bank; and United Capital Asset Management, would provide and shareideas on how various capital market regulators and stock exchanges in Nigeriacould attract more SMEs listings on their platforms.

 

Itwould demonstrate how international exchanges have successfully attracted SMEsfor capital raising on their platforms and facilitate interactive discussionsamong participants in order to extract real needs and opportunities toward anew regime of non-bank and market-based financing for SMEs.

 

Theconference, the inaugural from the "SME Finance Series", is titled "PrivateEquity: A Bridge or An Albatross? Role of the Capital Market," and is scheduledto hold on November 26.  The SME FinanceSeries is promoted by a consortium led by the Hamilton and George AdvisersLimited (H&G), a full-service boutique investment bank led by Joseph Edgar,a 22-Year Investment Banking Veteran.

 

Theconsortium also includes Foothold Advisors Limited, an independent financialadvisory and management consulting firm that supports entrepreneurs seeking togrow sustainable businesses with strong corporate governance, and AfricaStrategy Advisers, an SME Focused, Business advisory and venture incubation firmwith hundreds of SMEs in its network.

 

Thekey speakers at the conference are the President & Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the Nick Okoye Organisation and Anabel Group, Dr. Nicky Okoye, who wasalso a former Executive Director the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE); Mr. PaulCalvey, Partner, Oliver Wyman South Africa ; the Chief Executive Officer ofFMDQ Group, Mr. Bola Onadele Koko; the Managing Director/CEO of NASD, Mr. BolaAjomale and the Divisional Head, NSE Trading Business, Mr. Jude Chiemeka. Theconference will be moderated by Mr. Femi Awoyemi, the Chairman of ProshareNigeria Limited and Mr. Ugodre Obi-Chukwu, Promoter of the Nairametrics and theCMO of Ikeja Electric.

 

Accordingto Dr. Ore Sofekun, a panel discussion titled “SME Financing via CapitalMarkets- Challenges and Opportunities” would feature the Head, Private Capital Divisionat FMDQ Private Markets Limited, Mr. Yemi Osinubi; Divisional Head; NSEListings Business Divisional Head, Mr. Olumide Bolumole and the Partner, AfricaStrategy Advisers, Mr. Brainerd Efe Odiete.

 

Theconference would answer questions on such vital topics like the requirementsfor listing on the exchanges for successful fund raising; issues hamperingbusinesses from listing on the exchanges such as poor corporate governance,transparency, key man risk, corporate structure, inadequate financials, etc.;support structures in place to guide SMEs as they consider listing as well as initiativesaimed at boosting investor confidence and Investor protection by the exchanges.
