In the wake ofthe Coronavirus outbreak in Nigeria, faith-based organizations have joined theeffort in supporting the relief measures in country.
This articlehighlights some of the donations made so far by some of the Churches in Nigeriato the help in containing the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
ANGLICAN
The Province of Lagos,Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) donated the sum of N5 million to Ogun State Government to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.
The details of the fundwere contained in a letter presented to the Ogun state representative. TheBishop of Remo Diocese, Archbishop Olusina Fape who led a delegation of Bishopsto the Governor's office stated that the token contribution is from 13 diocesesin Ogun and Lagos states under the province of Lagos.
Through the donation the OgunState Government will able to able to support health workers, provide reliefefforts for its citizens during the lockdown period.
RCCG
The Redeemed ChristianChurch of God, RCCG donated 11 Intensive Care Units , ICUs to Lagos, Ogunand Plateau States with ventilators to improve the medical response to thedisease.
There are the Enoch& Folu Adeboye Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Plateau State SpecialistHospital, Plateau State Enoch & Folu Adeboye Intensive Care Unit,Redeemer's Health Centre Mowe, Ogun State and the Enoch & Folu AdeboyeIntensive Care Unit, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Lagos State.
This was facilitatedthrough the RCCG Christian Social Responsibility Initiative which alsopresented donations of 8,000 hand sanitizers. Pastor JF Odesola presented thedonations of 8,000 Hand Sanitizers, 8,000 Surgical Face Masks & 20,000 handgloves at Mainland Hospital Yaba, on behalf of the general overseer (GO) tosupport the efforts of the Lagos state government in equipping medical staff.
Dunamis
The Dunamis InternationalGospel Centre (DIGC), donated to the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Abujamedical equipment and relief materials worth millions of naira to helpfight the outbreak of novel coronavirus. The Senior Pastor and Founder Dr. PaulEnenche and his wife Dr. Becky Enenche alongside other church leaders handedover the donation to, Dr. Ramatu Tijani, the Minister of state, FCT.
The Senior Pastor alsomade contributions of equipment towards combating the COVID 19 pandemic as partof the Commissions Christian Social Responsibility. The equipment was given torural Health Care Centre.
WINNERSChapel
The Living Faith ChurchWorldwide also known as Winners Chapel International donated state-of-the-artAmbulances and Test Kits and other medical supplies to Lagos and Ogun stategovernments in the midst of the pandemic.
Medical equipment werealso donated which included 10 cartons of disposable face masks, 40 pieces ofinfrared thermometers, 2 cartons of blood pressure monitors, 20 cartons oflatex hand gloves, 500 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE), amongstother medical items.
Foodstuff such as 400 bagsof rice, 150 bags of beans, 400 bags of garri, 500 gallons of vegetable oilwere also donated to serve as palliatives for the less privileged affected bythe lockdown.
ElevationChurch
The ElevationChurch has also joined COVID-19 efforts in providing relief to citizens duringthe lockdown in Lagos state, by providing food materials for 2,000 families toassist them over the 14 days lockdown period.
