NBCC Tech Academy Inducts Second Cohort

The Nigerian British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) on Thursday March 23rd 2023, inducted the second cohort of the Tech Academy. 

 

The academy, a brainchild and initiative of Bisi Adeyemi, the 17th President and Chairman of Council, NBCC was established last year.

 

It was set up to equip young minds with skills in tech and assist tech-based start-ups in building a successful career in the sector, training them in the areas of Data Analytics, Product Management, and UI/UX Design. 

 

In her welcome address, the NBCC President said the Academy was an opportunity to give back to the society and bridge the gap identified in the tech sector. She further wished the class the best as she looked forward to their graduation in three months time as successful techies. 

 

While delivering a goodwill message on behalf of PwC, the lead sponsors of the academy, highlighted that the organization is proud to be partners and sponsors in closing the digital gap that exists in the country. Mr. Femi Madariola - Partner, PwC Nigeria further stated the importance of these new set of skills required for the younger generation and needed in the future of work. He congratulated the Inductees and commended the leadership of NBCC for staying true to this course.

 

Guest Speaker Juliet Ehimuan-Chiazor, Country Director, Google Nigeria in her presentation, stated that Technology offers the opportunity to see life in a different dimension. “It has permeated every aspect of life and is responsible for creating a lot of opportunities.”

 

She noted that the Tech Industry is a fast-growing and dynamic sector and as tech continues to advance, new fields have emerged that are rapidly changing the way people live and work.

 

In terms of career in tech, she listed the following essential skills like problem solving, continuous learning, technical skills, teamwork, critical thinking and effective communication.

 

Juliet also pointed out the roles that can be assumed in tech like Data Scientist, Software Engineer, Developer, Product Manager, Cloud Architect, and AI/ML Engineer. 

 

She also discussed on Entrepreneurship, Case Studies, Challenges and Solutions in the Technology industry.

 

The event also featured the introduction of each Inductee and a faculty briefing.
